How to: Put a swap file on a different drive.
Solution:
Select 'Settings' in the 'Start' menu and select 'Control Panel'. Double-click the 'System' icon and click the 'Performance' tab. Click 'Virtual Memory...'.
NOTE: It is advisable to defragment the hard drive to optimize performance of the swap file.
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)
3) Double-click the 'System' icon. (The 'System Properties' dialog box appears.)

4) Click the 'Performance' tab and click 'Virtual Memory...'. (The 'Virtual Memory' dialog box appears.)

CAUTION: It is advisable to let Windows set the default virtual memory settings. Manually adjusting settings should be done under the supervision of qualified computer technician.
5) Select the 'Let me specify my own virtual memory settings' radio button.
a) Select the hard disk on which the swap file is to be created from the 'Hard disk' drop-down list box.
NOTE 1: Make sure the hard disk selected has sufficient free disk space for the size of the swap file.
NOTE 2: Do not select a removable drive, a compressed drive, or a network drive for your swap file.
b) Type the minimum size of the swap file in the ' Minimum' list box.
c) Type the maximum size of the swap file in the 'Maximum' list box.
CAUTION: It is advisable to let Windows adjust the virtual memory settings automatically. Manually adjusting settings should be done by a qualified computer technician. A drive that has been compressed using a third-party compression utility should not be used.
NOTE: It is recommended that you set the minimum size of the swap file to at least 2 megabytes (MB).
6) Click 'OK'.
7) Reboot the computer for the settings to take effect.
